WhatsApp introduces Push-to-talk Feature without Message Length Limitations

Posted: 07 Aug 2013 03:59 PM PDT

Those who are not currently using WhatsApp are also not unaware of the increasing fame of this service. According to recent reports, WhatsApp has set a new record by passing the 300 Million mark of active users a month. Now that is some achievement and to keep it going like this the service has enhanced its voice messaging option for the platforms supporting the service.

Audio attachments are not new in WhatsApp but what is new is the new push-to-talk feature that allows users to record a voice clip from within the messenger and send it straight away without exiting the chat first. At the other end, the receiving person will be able to play the memo again from the chat window sidestepping the need to open a media player first.

When your sent clip has been received and listened to, you will see the mic icon changing color to blue. Just as you did not have to change any mode to send a clip, similarly the receiver will be able to reply to your clip with anything from a photo to another voice clip without having to budge from the chat. To listen to a voice message just tap on it, the service uses your ear piece or speaker of the device depending upon the way you hold it during recording.

To add the cherry on top, WhatsApp has now no restrictions as to the length of your recorded message. A comment from the company stated it “spent a lot of time refining [voice messaging] and made it really simple to use.”

WhatsApp has been growing since it started and it seems to have no intentions to give in anytime soon. In fact, the company released statics show an upward trend from 27 billion messages a day in June to 31 billion messages now. Snapchat is another similar service that sends over 200 million images in a day but if we compare, WhatsApp is quite ahead by sending 325 million images, though the experience on both services is respective.

The five platforms supported including iOS, Windows Phone, BB10, Android and Symbian will get notification of the new feature.
