| Google Apologized for Prolonged Outage of Gmail, Google Drive & Google+ Posted: 25 Jan 2014 12:45 PM PST In 2009, Gmail suffered 8 times from hours of outages over a span of nine months; in 2012, Gmail underwent an outage; in 2014, this very weekend, on Friday, Gmail went through another outage that exceeded the time period of an hour.
Anyone who tried to access their accounts at that time, received a note stating:
Services, except Gmail were restored and regarding Gmail, Google said:
It was reported that maybe the reason behind the outage was directed by a report generated on TechCrunch that on Thursday evening a man got a number of emails when he tried to search for Gmail on Google. It is not confirmed, whether this problem was what triggered the outage, but it is being considered a possibility. Moreover, at the time of the outage, Google's Reliability Team was holding an "Ask me Anything", session. But as people started to ask questions regarding the hour-long blackout, no response was attained by the public. Ben Treynor, the Vice President of Engineering at Google, officially apologized at a blog, for the interruption in the services delivered by Google. He acclaimed that they strive to deliver the best to their users, and were extremely apologetic in failing to satisfy their users on that day. Treynor also added that they were working to fix that particular bug and tightening their monitoring system, in order to prevent any further outages.
